In Urdu grammar, there are three main types of nouns (اسم کی اقسام): Ism Masdar (Gerund or Infinitive), Ism Mushtaq (Participle), and Ism Jamid (Solid Noun).

  1. Ism Masdar (اسم مصدر – Gerund or Infinitive):
  • This type of noun represents the action or the process of the verb.
  • Example: “Reading” (پڑھائی in Urdu) – The noun form represents the action of reading.
  1. Ism Mushtaq (اسم مشتق – Participle):
  • Ism Mushtaq is derived from the root letters of a verb and denotes a person or thing that is actively involved in the action.
  • Example: “Reader” (پڑھنے والا in Urdu) – The noun form represents a person actively involved in the action of reading.
  1. Ism Jamid (اسم جامد – Solid Noun):
  • Ism Jamid is a solid or concrete noun that refers to a physical object or something tangible.
  • Example: “Book” (کتاب in Urdu) – The noun represents a tangible object, which is a book in this case.
